ETHICAL IMPLICATION OF ABORTION IN NIGERIAN SOCIETY

Sunny Nzie Agu (PhD)

Abstract

Debate on abortion has been an age long issue in the human history, for which it could be seen and said that it has come to stay inevitably in the discussion of societal issues. In recent years, strategic and calculated attempts have been made by most advocators towards its legalization in some countries world over. They stand on the opinion that women have the right to decide if they are to carry their pregnancy till the period of delivery or to do away with the pregnancy by terminating it. Hence, they base their claim on the right of choice, in which it lies on the woman’s decision to do or nor to do what she wants, where, when and how she wants it as it pleases her. Thus, the purpose of this study is to critically examine the existing debate between the pro-abortionists and con-abortionists to determine the right of the unborn in the womb in the light of the right of the choice of the pregnant woman over her pregnancy and the morality of all action.
